In June the NAIE Board of Directors traveled to California School for the Deaf Riverside for the NAIE/NDEC conference. After the conference was over the board did the first of many trainings with Diversity Academy for Interpreters(DAI). At the conference in June the Credentialing Taskforce released a White Paper: A Case for National Certification. If you have not read the white paper please do so now.

After many years of being on the board of directors, Pat Himes has handed over the reigns to Kalen Beck. Kalen Joined the NAIE Board Of Directors in June 2023, and she has used this summer training. Thank you Pat for all the years you have served on the Board of NAIE!

In July and August NAIE transitioned from using Impact Account Management Company that we have used for the past two years to Eyeth Studios for the day-to-day running of NAIE.

Our Professional Development Committee has been working diligently to plan relevant and valuable webinars for our members during the 2023-2024 school year.
|
|
We recently hosted our August webinar, "Welcome Back/Meet the Board and State Ambassadors." This webinar included a brief overview from each Board member and discussions about ideas and practices that can be implemented into your daily work. Educational Interpreters as Related Service Providers, Culturally Responsive Classrooms, and cognition before communication were the main topics of conversation. We appreciate all the members who logged on and look forward to seeing you at the next one!

Upcoming Events
NAIE/DCMP QuickClass: NAIE/DCMP have collaborated on providing online courses for free CEUs as part of being a member of NAIE. We currently have a facilitator class going on. In October we will be providing a Members-only Ethics class. The Members-only Ethics class will be held October 23-November 23. During this class you will have weekly deadlines. NAIE will be opening registration for this class the first of October. For more information please contact our State Ambassador Director, Allyson Caruthers, stateambassadordir@naiedu.org

Research has proven that the EIPA Written and Performance Tests are valid and reliable. What does this mean and why is it important? Validity refers to how well a test measures what it is supposed to measure. Reliability is a measure of consistency. This means, for example, if a test-taker scored a 4.4 on the EIPA Secondary-PSE by rater group A in 2008 their interpreting skills would be consistent with the interpreting skills of a test-taker who similarly scored a 4.4 but on the EIPA Elementary-ASL by rater group B in 2023. Validity and reliability are important because these are considered two principles of a high-quality assessment. The book, Complexities in Educational Interpreting: An Investigation into Patterns of Practice, further describes the validity and reliability of the EIPA Tests.
